Cubes are a special item that are usually only found due to glitches. This is because the catch-all default for an undefined item or object in APICO is represented by a pink cube.
Especially in multiplayer, trying to retrieve a corrupted item, like say an invalid bee, will instead get turned into a pink cube item. Cubes can also be retrieved in singleplayer mode by using a hammer on Ellraiser or Metakitkat, which is useful when trying to use the Hacker Bee in a Habitat.

Under the Hacker Bee entry, the "lore" for the item is listed as "01100100 01100101 01101100 01101001 01100011 01101001 01101111 01110101 01110011 00100000 01110000 01101001 01101110 01101011 00100000 01100011 01110101 01100010 01100101 01110011 00100000 01111001 01110101 01101101", which translates to "delicious pink cubes yum".
In-game the title, category and tooltip for the cube are shown as a bunch of random symbols from the game. Looking in the game files shows the name, category and tooltip as the following: ▲▶◀▼◓◰♉♊, ⑤⑥⑦⑧⑨⑩①⑫⑬, and ◘★☆☢◱◲◳☃◆◉⊕♒◧◨ ♋⑮⑯◩◪◐◑◒◇▣▤ ▵◍▦▧▨♌②▩♓♈⑪♍♎♏♐♑☉☽☿. Unicode symbols are used in the game's font to render different icons within a sentance, so these are converted to symbols when rendering.
