"As you might have realised, not all bees like the rain - but some bees love it! It's also a really useful source of water, if only we had a way to collect it though..."

Weather is an important mechanic in APICO, as different species prefer different types of weather, and some species will not work if the conditions are not right. It can either be raining (both in the Forests and the Swamps, or snowing in the Tundra.

Weather can be controlled through the use of Idols, and you can see any current weather effects in the HUD in the top-right corner.

Game Mechanics

Rain

Every day after the 4th day there is a 35% chance of rain each day. If it's going to rain then a "Weather Report" notification will be shown at midnight for the next day.

In the Swamps this chance is increased to 100%, meaning every day in the Swamps will have some rain at some point.

Rain will last for between 5-8 in-game hours, meaning there's enough time to breed most bee species that need the rain for their Cross-Breeding requirements. Rain can be collected in Raintanks, which is then used to create Apicola or bottled for crafting.

While it's raining in the swamps, there is a 10% chance that lightning will strike, which can occur every 20, 40 or 60 in-game seconds. Lightning is used to discover the Lightning Bee.

Snow

Every day after the 4th day there is a 35% chance of snow each day. If it's going to snow then a "Weather Report" notification will be shown at midnight for the next day.

Technically both rain and snow are the same "weather", it's just that visually snow will be different when in the Tundra. This means if it's raining in the swamps you can head other to the tundra to get snow.

The same as rain, snow will last for between 5-8 in-game hours, meaning there's enough time to breed most bee species that need the rain for their Cross-Breeding requirements. While snowing, there's a 9% chance every game second that a single grass tile on-screen will have Snow placed on it.

While there is always a slight amount of snow in the tundra, when snowing there'll be far more snow on-screen, and the screen will be slightly darker.
