Cubes are a special item that are usually only found due to glitches. This is because the catch-all default for an undefined item or object in APICO is represented by a pink cube.
Especially in multiplayer, trying to retrieve a corrupted item, like say an invalid bee, will instead get turned into a pink cube item. these items can also be retrieved in singleplayer mode by using a hammer on Ellraiser or Metakitkat, which is useful when trying to use the Hacker Bee in a Habitat.
